Philly Phil, Dj Everlasting, Dj Daddy Phil, are just some of the names that I went by. My love of music, began as a child learning to play the piano, and listening to funk and soul music on the school bus. Around 1980 tapes started circulating around the neighborhod from Harlem World. Those epic battles from the Bronx playing on boom boxes, and just soaking in Hip Hop culture and knowing that I wanted to be part of that. I had my first summer job when I was 16 and with the money I saved I bought some cheap beltdrive turntables, and a Radioshack mixer. I started doing basement parties and becoming friends with the guys who would become Pieces of a Dream. I rememeber hanging out with them up on the ave., which introduced me to the Boss Dr. Ryhtm and a TB-303 and that's when I knew I wanted to make music and then they dropped Mt. Airy Groove, which was named after our hood. 1983 rolls around and Style Wars comes out and 30 plus years later I'm still watching it from time to time. A after type of Style Wars was Star Wars which was released in 1977 and that is what influenced me to go to college to learn filmmaking. In 1989 my senior project was a documentary about Hip Hop music which will be released on youtube in the coming months.
